The director and shareholder can be a company or an individual, can be of any nationality and can be the same person. A BVI company is not required to prepare annual accounts or have an audit, and hence costs are lower than for onshore companies. On the other hand, tax authorities and others tend to regard BVI and other offshore companies with suspicion, and it is therefore important to consider in advance the exact use to which an offshore company will be put.
