Offshore companies are used extensively for convenience, cost and confidentiality. The registers of an offshore company are typically not a matter of public record and so the owners can normally be sure that their business affairs will remain confidential.
There are many kinds of offshore company, and Primasia Corporate Services Ltd. can incorporate in 60 different on- and offshore jurisdictions. However, the BVI is the most commonly used jurisdiction and we will use the BVI Business Company to illustrate offshore companies in general.

BVI
A BVI company requires a minimum of one shareholder, one director, a BVI registered agent and a BVI address (registered office). The director and shareholder can be a company or an individual, can be of any nationality and can be the same person.
A BVI company is not required to prepare annual accounts or have an audit, and hence costs are lower than for onshore companies.
On the other hand, tax authorities and others tend to regard BVI and other offshore companies with suspicion, and it is therefore important to consider in advance the exact use to which an offshore company will be put. Sometimes, the additional cost of an onshore company, such as a Hong Kong company, is worthwhile for this reason.
